In the Spring of 2006, veteran tat zapper Joe Lathe of Saints n' Sinners and his tattoo patron Sean Davidson, a MICA design graduate, converged to create a line of clothing inspired by tattoo iconography, iconic sailing themes and avant-garde graphic design. After months of apparel concepts were produced, the team had nearly 20 different designs on 1,600 pieces of clothing.

In the early fall of 2006 the team underwent a feverish promotional and marketing campaign to sell and distribute the clothing. Then, in early winter of that same year, the newly married Lathe came across a property on the "Avenue" in Hampden Maryland and the Have Fun Be Lucky Store was founded. The name, derived from a 1960's sex novelty product, became an instant success amongst the Hampden boutique community and a fixture amongst the Baltimore hipster crowd.

In April of 2007, the store was successfully zoned for tattooing, ensuring the brand both as a lifestyle and a new source for tattoos amongst the already successful and competitive Baltimore market. To this day, HFBL continues to produce quality tattoos and apparel amongst the Baltimore scene. With the addition of Matthew Rose and Joe's wife, Andrea Vitale-Lathe, the store has additionally become a source for quality art and avant-garde design culture. - Sean Davidson
